"Promoting mental health for people with intellectual disability" Dear Colleagues, Amsterdam: the place to be! Especially on 3, 4 and 5 September 2009.
We emphasise the mental health more than the psychiatric and problem behaviour, because we want to share the vision of looking at the possibilities of people with intellectual disability and their own strengths. In order to give that the best chance, we need to do research on a lot of different aspects as environmental, psychic and health aspects of people with intellectual disability. We therefore also need to examine if our support-systems and healthcare organisation still matches with the needs of the people with intellectual disability and how we have to adapt our support and organisation to our new findings. This congress is a cooperation between Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. In this way we want to show that we can only gain in quality and new ideas if we break through our borders. We have to take even more initiatives to find each other and to challenge and feed each other with our scientific results and practical findings. We are very proud to be able to organise this 7th congress in Amsterdam again. Perhaps you remember that our first European Congress started in Amsterdam. So we are back in town. It is interesting to look back on so many years and to experience the enormous progress and developments in this field. Another reason to be there in September 2009! We hope you actively will take part in this inspiring international congress and want to share with us your scientific findings, new ideas and experiences on promoting mental health for people with intellectual disability.
